Writing A CV That WOOs Recruiters: Let’s Get Started By Clarifying A Few Things
‘Writing A CV That WOOs Recruiters’…Article # 1
You will find endless amounts of information about writing a CV. Some of it works, some of it’s plain nonsense and often it’s hard to differentiate between the two. Over time the best practices for writing a CV change as well.
Therefore I thought it would be useful to write a series of articles/videos, which will provide practical tips for writing a CV and answer questions that I hear most frequently from job seekers. The series will follow a logical and step-by-step approach, going through the entire process of writing a CV.
To get started I want to make sure we’re all on the same page, by clarifying a few basic things.
First: In most parts of the world (such as Asia, Europe and Australia) the terms CV and Resume are used interchangeable and mean the same thing. No problem there.
However, in the USA they mean very different things, as shown below:
So for people living in the US, when I use the term CV, I’m referring to a Resume.
Second: I will be discussing best practices for writing a CV, which are applicable in most places in the world. However, there are a few areas in a CV, where location-specific differences exist in the type/amount of information included.
As far as possible, I will highlight these areas and will also request people on our team from USA/Europe/Etc. to comment on the differences. We can’t cover each and every country though , so if there are specific/different practices followed in your country, which we don’t cover, do point them out in the relevant article for everyone’s benefit.
Ok. That’s all for now. Stay tuned for lots more information on ‘Writing A CV That WOOs Recruiters’
