61% of Singapore companies to increase hiring
Two out of three companies in Singapore say they plan to increase their headcount in the first quarter of 2010.
In a survey by ACHIEVE Group, 61% of 500 companies surveyed say they plan to hire this quarter while 39% indicated that they would not. Out of the 39% of companies that said no, only a small 4% had intentions to reduce headcount.
The retail, hospitality & F&B sector also came up tops as the industry looking to recruit the most people, as 79% of respondents said they had intentions to hire. In addition, 67% of manufacturing, industrial and engineering also had plans to hire, as well as 59% of the professional services.
On the other hand, 71% of oil & gas respondents did not have any intentions of hiring this quarter.
Out of the 303 companies that would begin hiring in Q1, 59% of respondents said they would offer an increment of less than 10% to new hires while 12% would offer an increment of 10 - 20%.
