Happiness At Work In Singapore

The results of the JobsCentral Work Happiness Indicator 2011 were announced.

The survey aims to measure how happy employees are in Singapore, on various work attributes that they consider important. A total of 2,385 working adults participated in this year’s survey.

The average overall score on the Work Happiness Indicator is 57.4 out of 100. This is not a very high score and one reason is that for the most part people are satisfied with attributes they consider unimportant and unsatisfied with attributes which are important.




Some other highlights:

  • The happiest employees are the youngest respondents. Those who are 16-20 years old scored 62.1 in the happiness index.
  • On the other hand, the oldest group who are 61 and above are the most unhappy, with an average score of 54.9.
  • Employees with higher education qualifications seem to be happier at work. PhD
  • holders have the highest average Work Happiness Indicator score of 66.7.
  • Out of the various types of employment, part-timers are by far the happiest, with an average Work Happiness Indicator score of 60.2.
  • Civil servants and employees in the private sector both scored 57.4 points, thus sector of work doesn’t affect happiness significantly.
  • The happiest employees are those in the risk management industry, with an average Work Happiness Indicator score of 65.6.
  • The most unhappy workers are in the public relations industry, with a score of 53.5.
