10K Found Jobs In Singapore Thanks To Government Help (1H2016)

In response to questions about the effectiveness of support for helping Singaporeans find jobs, given the rise in unemployment and layoffs, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say provided some information about the assistance activities.

Around 10,000 people were able to secure employment during 1H 2016, due to help provided by Government related schemes, training and counselling.

These job seekers included 4,000 PMETs (professionals, managers, executives and technicians), who found jobs after seeking assistance from the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

10,210 people lost their jobs in the first half of 2016.

“The Government will continue to monitor the economic and labour market situation closely, and expand employment support to our workers proactively as we go through this period of not just cyclical uncertainty but structural transition too,” said Mr Lim.
