The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is planning on creating Singapore’s second Central Business District (CBD) in Jurong Lake District.
URA recently called for proposals for the development of the new CBD, where the future terminus of the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail will also be located.
At the moment, some of the high level plans for the CBD include:
- Making a lot of public spaces for people to work and interact.
- Shaping a distinct identity of the district.
- Improving and modernizing transport and commute options.
- Keeping the area green and open.
Jurong Lake District was first announced in 2008, as the regional center in the west of Singapore. The area includes Jurong Gateway (commercial hub) and Lakeside (leisure precinct).
“We have an exceptional opportunity to transform Jurong Lake District into ‘A District of the Future’ and our second CBD, which will redefine the way we live, work and play. As a CBD in our heartlands, the District will drive Singapore’s growth in the future economy, and cater to the diverse needs of businesses, residents, visitors, and Singaporeans from all walks of life. It will be a distinctive new gateway to Singapore,” stated National Development Minister, Lawrence Wong.
