Singapore’s 76,000 civil servants will receive a year-end bonus amounting to 1.75 months’ salary.
This amount comprises the following:
-> 0.75-month of year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC)
-> 1-month Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA), also known as the 13th-month payment
Last year, the civil servant bonus amount was equal to 2 months’ salary. They also received 1 to 1.6 months of Growth Bonus, which is typically given when the Singapore economy does well. This year there will be no Growth Bonus.
The Singapore National Employers’ Federation (SNEF) said this year’s civil servant bonus is a “good” one. Meanwhile the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and its eight affiliated civil service unions said the bonus is “fair”. The NTUC said the amount rewards civil servants for their hard work & contributions and also takes into account the higher cost of living, as well as Singapore’s slower economic growth this year.
Singapore’s economy is expected to grow about 5% during 2011, as compared to 14.5% in 2010.
