With the fast-paced and often stressful working lives that we lead, it is always good to unwind and slow things down a bit. After a hectic week at work, I really enjoy starting my weekend with a lazy and tasty breakfast. I have tried many places for breakfast in Singapore, however, and there are only a handful of places which I keep going back to. I thought it would be nice to share my favourites and it would be great to get your recommendations as well.
Casa Verde: It is part of the Les Amis group and they serve great waffles and American/English/Continental breakfast. The location, in the Botanical gardens, is a big plus and provides a nice way to spend some time after breakfast.
Prive: Nice place to enjoy breakfast, overlooking yatchs in the Marina. Very well made eggs benedict, pancakes, pastries and milkshakes.
Toastbox: I’m a big fan of the Kaya Toast Set, Kopi and also like other items they have on the menu such as Hebi Hiam, Otah Toast, Banana Cake, Floss Toast and Peanut Butter Toast.
Old Town White Coffee: Another great place for good local fare, with a very extensive menu.
Murugan Idli Shop: Excellent South Indian food, including dosa, idli, wada and uttapam. I found it is best to go when they open at 9:00 AM in the morning, since the food is expecially fresh. It’s not the most relaxing place but the food makes it worth the visit.
Tiong Bahru and Old Airport Road Hawker Centres: Out of all the food available at these two hawker centres, I like the Kueh at Tiong Bahru and Lor Mee at Old Airport Road.
Hatched: Good eggs and pancakes.
Mr Prata: There is one outlet located right next to Hatched, in case you are in the mood more something a bit more greasy and local. I usually go for the egg or cheese prata.
Canopy Cafe: Great little place with amazing views of the Marina Bay Golf Course. It’s never too crowded and the local fare is excellent.
Epicurious: Located in Robertson Quay and they have the usual Western breakfast fare. I used to like it more, however, the last few times I visited I felt that the food was not as good.
What are some of your favourite breakfast and brunch places in Singapore? I could certainly do with a few new places to visit.
