If you are interviewing for a job, chances are you will need to go through 3-4 job interview rounds, before a decision is made. It is useful to know what to expect during different stages of the selection process, so that you can prepare accordingly and reduce surprises. Here are some interview tips to guide you and help your interview preparation.
Interview tips & types of interview questions during different stages of the process
In general, during early rounds you can expect interview questions which are more global in nature. The main goal at this stage is to make sure they have understood your background correctly and whether you actually meet the basic requirements of the job. Essentially, they are doing a quick screening to see which candidates from the initial shortlist, should be presented to senior/relevant hiring managers. Typically, this interview will not be extremely long and might be conducted by HR and/or a relatively junior employee, in-person or even over the phone.
If you progress to the next rounds, then that is where the heat is turned on. Expect to meet with numerous company representatives, either in a group interview setting, or one after the other. Often, with regional & multi-national companies, there could be a senior executive from another location, joining-in over the phone. During this stage, the interviewers will ask a number of probing questions, in order to get an in-depth view of your background and achievements. Expect questions which ask for examples/evidence and details of relevant experience, in order to make a judgement of your technical and soft/other competencies. Another area of interest for certain employers, will be whether you are a good fit for the company culture and their way of working. They would also like to gauge your interest in the firm/job. Both of these are to get a sense of how long you might stay with them and how committed you will be.
With these interview tips you should have a better idea of what to expect during the process.
